1 Relax: I know easier said than done, think about how you stand when you’re chatting to someone in everyday life, Do you really stand at attention? No I think not, most people will put most of their body weight on one leg this is easily achieved by slightly bending the front knee whilst straightening the back knee… pause for a second and try it… how’d you go? wasn’t that hard was it. this simple movement puts some angles through your shoulders.
2 Position your body so that it isn’t front onto the camera turn your body about 45 degrees away from the photographer normally towards the light source don’t forget to move your feet as well. once again this is just replicating what you would normally do when chatting to someone you meet.
3 What about my head? once again very rarely do you stand with your head straight it’s normally tilted. which way you say? If your standing at 45 degrees to the photographer it appears natural if you tilt it slightly to your back leg. Now with that tilt turn your head towards the photographer and lift your chin slightly.
4 Clothes? no super funky patterns unless of course your making a deliberate statement or that’s part of who you are. solid colours are good, plain white not so much as the eye will always go straight to the brightest thing in a photograph
5 Make up? well I’ll assume you know how to do that, the only tip I’ll give you is don’t be two shiny bring something to dab down that sheen
6 Smile. No seriously you need to smile if you are being photographed for any sort of marketing for your business a smile goes along way. there are the exceptions of course but 99% of the time smile hopefully the photographer will help you out with his or her wit and charm if not just remember to smile, think happy thoughts
So the next time you’re about to be photographed remember it’s only a camera and not a spot light if you find yourself tensing up breathe, relax and remember these top tips for when your being photographed
What about my hands what to I do with those?? I’ve written an extensive blog out those troublesome appendages HERE.
Ps. If you’re working with a professional he or she will get you into these positions pretty quickly.
May your day be an awesome day 🙂
